Domestic Violence Ends In Death In Lake County

ANTIOCH, Ill. (STMW) -- A 41-year-old man is in jail on a $3 million bond after he was charged with the murder of the mother of his 19-year-old daughter in Lake County.

At about 10:15 p.m. on Thursday, Lake County Sheriff's Office deputies were called to a residence in the 26000 block of West Bond Avenue in unincorporated Antioch for a domestic disturbance. When deputies got there, they found victim, 40-year-old Tammy L. Stone, unresponsive in a bedroom of her home. The deputies immediately began life saving efforts, and paramedics from the Antioch Fire Department took her to a hospital where she later succumbed to her injuries.

Stone's 19-year old daughter, along with two of her friends, had gone to the residence after Stone called her daughter, saying she was in a fight with Michael S. Axtell, the girl's father. The daughter arrived at the Bond Avenue home and found her mother with a blackened left eye, according to the sheriff's office.

Her daughter and Axtell got into a physical altercation regarding her mother's condition. The young woman then went out to the attached garage area of the home, at which time a suspicious noise was heard coming from inside the residence, police said. Stone's daughter, along with her friends, went back in to the home and found Stone unresponsive.

Axtell had left the residence on foot before sheriff's police got there. He was located by sheriff's office personnel within hours of the incident and taken into custody.

Axtell has been charged with first degree murder and his bond has been set at $3 million. His next court date is scheduled for October 25.
