Dog Rescued From Fire In Carol Stream

CAROL STREAM, Ill. (STMW) - More than $100,000 in damage was caused by a fire that left one unit of a west suburban townhome uninhabitable early Wednesday. The residents escaped safely, though firefighters did rescue a dog hiding under a bed.

The Carol Stream Fire District was dispatched to the fire at 189 Goldenhill St. about 3 a.m., according to a release from the fire district.

Carol Stream police officers on the scene reported fire coming from the second story of the three-unit townhome. The occupants were home at the time but had gotten out before fire personnel arrived.

The first firefighters on the scene conducted an interior search to confirm the residents were out and found a family dog hiding under a bed, the release said. A second alarm was requested resulting in 41units from 15 fire departments responding.

The fire was out at 4:34 a.m. No injuries were reported.

One unit was rendered uninhabitable and another unit had minor damage. Total damage was estimated to be in excess of $100,000.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the DuPage County Arson Task Force. The Red Cross responded to assist those displaced by the fire.
