Dog dies in house fire in Chicago's western suburbs
CHICAGO (CBS) -- A dog was killed in a house fire Saturday afternoon in west suburban La Grange Park.
Shortly after 3:30 p.m., the La Grange Park Fire Department responded to a house fire at 514 N. Catherine Av., and when crews arrived, flames were coming out the back windows of the 2 ½-story wood frame home, and were spreading to the 2nd floor and attic.
Fire officials said no one was home at the time, except for the family dog. Firefighters pulled the dog out of the home, but it was unresponsive, and despite firefighters' attempts to revive the animal, it died.
Firefighters used two hose lines to put out the fire.
The fire appeared to have started in the kitchen, but the exact cause remained under investigation.
The home was left uninhabitable, with damage estimated at $200,000.
