Documentary To Film 105th Annual Chicago-To-Mackinac Yacht Race
CHICAGO (CBS) -- More than 300 boats will be running the annual Chicago Yacht Club Race To Mackinac this weekend, and this year it will documented on film.
WBBM Newsradio's Regine Schlesinger reports the new CNN documentary series "Chicagoland" – from producer Robert Redford's Sundance Institute – will feature the 105th annual sailboat race from Chicago to Mackinac Island, between Michigan's lower and upper peninsulas.
Crews will be on hand to film the race, one of the nation's premier yachting events, and the world's oldest freshwater boat race.
The "Chicagoland" series will air in eight parts next year, featuring stories about Chicago politics, crime, schools, culture, and more.
Race chairman Lou Sandoval said there's no better image of Chicago than the view of the city from Lake Michigan during the yacht race.
The race launches from the lighthouse off Navy Pier on Saturday, with hundreds of boats competing to be the first to cross the finish line between Mackinac Island and Round Island, Mich.
