Diversified Education Improves Your Chances Of Employment In Chicago

The Bureau of Labor Statistics released an August report stating there were 142,000 new jobs added to the economy, with the most new jobs being in the sector of business services. With over 47,000 new jobs in business in the month of August alone, many professionals are starting to consider new areas of the business sector that may provide increased career opportunities.

Chicago professional, Billy Dec, completed the Harvard Business School's Owner/President Management 37 Program, earned his Juris Doctor from IIT Chicago-Kent College of Law, and also earned a Bachelor of Science in economics and pre-law from the University of Illinois. With such a diverse educational background, Dec offers some advice for others thinking of entering the business field.

Billy Dec is an Emmy Award winning entertainment TV personality and CEO/founder of Rockit Ranch Productions, Chicago's premier hospitality & entertainment development company - specializing in the creation, marketing and management of some of the city's top venues including Rockit Bar & Grill, Underground, Rockit Burger Bar, Sunda, ¡AY CHIWOWA!, Bottlefork, and The Duck Inn.

While many consider the entertainment and hospitality field as volatile with a slim chance of success, Dec shows how a diversified education can help to increase the chances for success. When asked how his education has helped in achieving his current role, Dec stated, "Focusing on business law helped me learn how to analyze problems & obstacles, analyze them in many different ways, attack with solutions & options, and even apply all proactively to avoid issues before they even become a possibility in the future. In business school, I learned about mission, strategy, structure, competition, and growth. I learned how to apply all of that to build amazing teams. As your relationships build and work hard to fight for future growth opportunities, all are ready and excited to make the dreams a reality."

When asked for his advice to others entering the business field, Dec stated, "Work, work, work (for free if need be) in as many different businesses as possible, for as long as you can while building relationships. Attend school while you work, and take advantage of tuition reimbursement."
