Ditka's Son To Be Arraigned For DUI On Nov. 16
WAUKEGAN (STMW) -- Former Bears Coach Mike Ditka's son Mark has a Nov. 16 arraignment after he was indicted by a Lake County grand jury on aggravated DUI and unlawful possession of controlled substances charges.
Ditka, 49, was stopped for illegal lane use while on Waukegan Road near Central Avenue in the village. He refused to take a breath alcohol or blood test, Deerfield police said. He was arrested after an officer conducted a field sobriety test.
Police said they found hydrocodone pills inside the Deerfield man's car when he was arrested in October. Hydrocodone is a narcotic class of drug that requires a doctor's prescription.
He also was cited for operating an uninsured vehicle, driving on a suspended license and illegal lane use. It is his second DUI arrest in Deerfield in the past year. Breathalyzer results in the first case were thrown out by a judge.
His older brother, Michael Ditka, 50, also of Deerfield, had a felony DUI case against him. Michael's case was dropped earlier this year.
A felony DUI means a person has previously been arrested for DUI.
Mark Ditka posted 10 percent of his $25,000 bond on Oct. 7, according to Lake County Jail records.
