Derrick Rose Will Play Against Magic, Says Knee Is Fine
(CBS) After sitting out Saturday's win against the Bucks with left knee soreness, Bulls point guard Derrick Rose will play in tonight's home game against the Magic, he said this morning.
Rose participated in the team's shootaround and told reporters his knee is "fine." He didn't undergo an MRI, as the treatment he had Saturday and Sunday cleared the issue up.
"I was just sore, I guess from playing in the games," Rose said. "I don't know, who knows. I was just sore.
"Trying to be cautious about it."
After showing signs of breaking out of a six-game shooting slump with 19 points in Friday's loss at Washington, Rose's knee flared up before Saturday's win against Milwaukee. He said his knee has had nothing to do with his recent shooting struggles.
Rose downplayed the concerns about his knee moving forward.
"It's not out of the norm (after) having two knee surgeries," Rose said. "It's just some type of soreness that I came upon ... and it held me back a game. If it was something that was lingering where I felt it the entire time along that stretch -- that 15-game, 20-game stretch (where I was playing) -- I would've been worried about it. But I didn't feel anything until after the Washington game."
Rose tore his left ACL in April 2012 and sat out all of the 2012-'13 season. He suffered a meniscus tear in his right knee in November 2013 and missed the rest of the 2013-'14 season.
Rose has missed 11 of Chicago's 38 games this season. Before Saturday, he hadn't missed one for injury reasons since Nov. 21. He did miss two games in mid-December with an illness.
Rose is averaging 16.9 points per game, third-most on the team.
