Derrick Rose Leaves Game With Hamstring Tightness
(CBS) Bulls guard Derrick Rose didn't last long on the second night of a back-to-back.
After logging 9:52 of playing time in the first half of Chicago's 114-109 loss at Denver on Tuesday night, Rose didn't return to the court for the second half. Shortly after, the Bulls announced Rose wouldn't return as he dealt with left hamstring tightness
Of course, in the saga that is Rose's health, there was another dose of drama. Rose didn't actually re-injure himself Tuesday, Bulls coach Tom Thibodeau said. Rather, Thibodeau didn't like how Rose was struggling to adjust to the "speed of the game" and therefore wanted to be cautious. It was Thibodeau's idea to pull Rose, who remained in the locker room area during the second half to get treatment.
"There was really nothing that happened ... other than I didn't want to take any chances with him," Thibodeau said.
Rose originally suffered the hamstring injury on Nov. 13. He then missed Chicago's next four games before returning Monday in a win at Utah, where he scored 18 points on 5-of-10 shooting in 25 minutes.
Rose has played in seven of Chicago's 15 games this season. On Tuesday, he had just two points on 1-of-4 shooting and lacked aggressiveness before leaving with the hamstring tightness.
Rose's absence comes at a time the Bulls are already reeling from injuries to others. Joakim Noah sat out Tuesday's game after being poked in the eye Monday night and because he was also dealing with knee troubles. Taj Gibson is in Chicago getting treatment on a sprained ankle.
After Tuesday, Chicago (9-6) next plays Friday at Boston.
