Derrick Rose Begins His Rehab In 'Good Spirts'
By Cody Westerlund-
CHICAGO (CBS) -- As expected, Bulls point guard Derrick Rose began his rehab Saturday, one day after undergoing "minor" knee surgery on a tear in his right medial meniscus. Rose is expected to be sidelined four to six weeks with the injury.
"He's good," coach Tom Thibodeau said. "He came in, started his rehab. So that's good."
Asked further what Rose was doing, Thibodeau said it was just basic work Saturday.
"I don't know about the jumping jacks, but you're talking a day after surgery," Thibodeau said. "It's just the initial steps. We're cautiously optimistic. He's in good spirits, on it. So that's good.
"It's mapped out with the medical people. The one thing about Derrick is he has been through a few of them, and he'll follow the plan. So hopefully everything goes fine."
In other Bulls injury news, forward Taj Gibson didn't participate in Saturday's practice and is doubtful for Sunday's game against the Clippers as he deals with a left ankle sprain, Thibodeau said. Gibson left in the first quarter of Friday's win and didn't return. After the game, he was hopping around on his right foot in the locker room, putting no weight on his left foot. The same ankle has nagged Gibson on previous occasions.
Bulls center Pau Gasol was at the Bulls' practice and was "feeling a lot better," Thibodeau said, after he missed Friday's game with an illness.
"It's difficult, especially at this part of the season, but we need to be strong, especially mentally," Bulls forward Nikola Mirotic said of the health issues."
