Derailment Snags Metra UP-North Line
WAUKEGAN, Ill. (CBS) -- The Metra Union Pacific North Line ran into some serious snags Friday morning, after some equipment derailed at a train yard in Waukegan.
No one was injured in the derailment, which happened in the Metra rail yard in Waukegan. Two front wheels of a train came off the tracks, Metra spokesman Tom Miller said.
Because the train involved in the derailment was scheduled to travel into Chicago this morning, at least two trains on the Union Pacific-North Line between the city and Kenosha, Wis., did not run at all.
Several others were delayed up to an hour or ran on modified schedules, according to Metra's website. Until further notice, all inbound trains will board from platform No. 1 at the Waukegan, North Chicago, Great Lakes and Lake Bluff stations.
Miller advised commuters using the UP-North Line to check service alerts on Metra's website for specific delays.
