Derailed Amtrak Train Switched To Wrong Track
CHICAGO (CBS) -- An Amtrak passenger train that left the tracks near Niles, Mich., on Sunday was reportedly switched to the wrong track.
That mistake, discovered by the National transportation Safety Board, caused the derailment of two locomotives and a couple of coach cars.
A total of 174 people were onboard when the accident happened, and a dozen were injured.
The train managed to stop just short of smashing into another train car on the same track.
The NTSB is continuing the investigation.
