'Depraved Miscreant' Gets 51 Years For Murder
JOLIET (STMW) -- A southwest suburban man whom prosecutors called a "depraved miscreant" was sentenced to more than 50 years in prison Wednesday for the fatal shooting of a man who teased his girlfriend at a party.
A jury found Tyrone Henderson, 31, of Joliet, guilty of first-degree murder in January, and also convicted him of home invasion, criminal trespass to a residence, aggravated unlawful use of a weapon and being an armed habitual criminal, according to the Will County State's Attorney's office.
On Wednesday he was sentenced to 51 years in prison for the shooting of Michael Amos, 21, on Aug. 26, 2009 at the victim's home in Joliet.
Amos had teased Henderson's girlfriend that evening, and she called Henderson, who arrived at Amos' house a short time later armed with a .45-caliber handgun, a release from the state's attorney's office said.
Henderson punched the victim's brother in the face, which led to a melee inside the house. He then pulled out his weapon and shot Amos three times -- once in the shoulder, once in the stomach and once in the leg -- while others in the house attempted to take the gun away, the release said.
"Tyrone Henderson is a depraved miscreant who gunned down an unarmed man in this act of cold-blooded violence," State's Attorney James Glasgow said in the release. "The conviction and sentence ... guarantee he will spend most, if not all, of his remaining days in a cold, dank prison cell."
