Harris: Big East Losing Streak Is Over For DePaul
By Adam Harris--
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WSCR) -- The losing streak is over. Oliver Purnell and his DePaul Blue Demons beat the Providence Friars Thursday night, ending a 25 game Big East losing streak which dates back to January 20th of last year.
"It's a relief, and it's good to see the kids celebrating a win. It's an affirming event," Purnell told the Score's Zach Zaidman after the game. "You and I have talked after the last few games and have said that we have been playing better and better. It's just nice to have a win to show for it."
DePaul senior guard Jeremiah Kelly lead his team with 23 points, shooting 50 percent (4-8) from beyond the arc.
After blowing a 10 point halftime lead to end up tied at 58, DePaul scored 7 unanswered points to regain control.
The third leading scorer in the nation, Providence star guard Marshon Brooks, scored 28 points tonight, but that was not enough to keep the streak going for DePaul who is now 7-18 overall and 1-12 in the Big East.
DePaul's next game is Saturday morning at home against Villanova and can be heard on 670 The Score. Pre-game starts at 10:45 am, tip is at 11 am.
