DePaul Basketball Won't Play At United Center
(CBS) DePaul basketball fans who were hoping to see their Blue Demons call the United Center home can forget it.
According to a report, the university has turned down an offer from the United Center for the Blue Demons to play their home games there for the next 10 years, free of charge. The report indicates DePaul will look to build its own facility near the McCormick Place.
"DePaul had communications with the United Center recently that it intended to pursue a public building at McCormick Place," a source told the Tribune.
While DePaul hasn't announced any official plans, the school confirmed it is looking to build its own facility in the city after playing in Rosemont for years.
Ald. Bob Fioretti, whose 2nd Ward includes McCormick Place, said DePaul would likely meet resistance if the school intends to push for public funding to build a private facility in his district.
"There are other places to put it," he said, "unless they can demonstrate a clear and convincing case."
