Deng 'Quietly' Having A Great Season

Derrick Rose has been the superstar on the Bulls' roster this season. And not too far behind him have been Carlos Boozer and Joakim Noah, but not too far behind them is Luol Deng.

"I feel like fans and readers and emailers really put me in a position where I sound like I like Luol Deng more than I do," K.C. Johnson, of the Chicago Tribune, said on 670 the Score. "Because people make it sound like he's a bum or a stiff or can't play basketball."

At this point in Deng's career, we pretty much know the type of player he is.

"He's a very viable NBA starter," Johnson said. "I think he's a very viable third option on a good team. I mean he can't be your lead option or your second option, but I think Luol is having a fantastic season."

Deng's contributions this season have gone beyond his 17.6 points per game and 6.1 rebounds per game, it's the intangibles that have made him so valuable.

"What I think has been most impressive about [Deng]," Johnson said, "is that even when he hasn't scored, he's finding ways to contribute, whether he's rebounding or actively defending or tipping loose balls or just finding ways to impact the game. So I think Luol, in a very quite way, is having an excellent season."
