Dempster Pitches 5 Shutout Innings To Beat White Sox
Friday was the first meeting of the Cubs and White Sox to spark this season's rivalry and the Southside struggled against Ryan Dempster. The Cubs held a 3-0 lead through the ninth inning before the White Sox could put some runs on the board.
Ryan Dempster threw five shutout innings Friday as the Chicago Cubs beat the Chicago White Sox 4-3.
Dempster struck out six, including the last four he faced. He gave up two hits, a walk and hit a batter.
Cubs newcomer Carlos Pena hit his first homer of the spring, connecting in the second off Mark Buehrle. Pena hit an RBI single off Buehrle in the third.
Buehrle gave up six hits and three runs in three innings. He has given up eight runs and 15 hits in his last two starts.
Jeff Baker and Geovany Soto each had two hits or the Cubs. Lastings Milledge hit a two-run homer in the ninth inning for the White Sox.
