Del Valle Vows To Streamline Government, Help Small Business
CHICAGO (WBBM) -- Miguel del Valle says he'll streamline city government to make it easier for small businesses to create new jobs if he's elected mayor of Chicago.
Del Valle was in the Logan Square area, hearing from local business people about the difficulties they have with city permits and inspections.

Del Valle says he'd make things easier if he were mayor. But, the Daley administration had made similar promises, and del Valle was asked why it could still take months to get a permit for a sign or an awning.
He says it is because aldermen don't want to give up the control of forcing businesses to ask them for such things. But del Valle says there's a better way to maintain control in the wards than making the business people wait for the passage of an ordinance.
As for rival Gery Chico's jobs plans, del Valle had some criticisms.
Chico vows to appoint a new deputy mayor for business development and job creation. Del Valle says he won't need a new deputy mayor for that. He says there are too many bureaucrats at city hall already.
He says the streamlining could be done within the existing structures, and he would cut the number of people with "deputy" titles.
