Del Valle: Teacher Strikes 'Not An Issue'

CHICAGO (WBBM) -- Mayoral Candidate and City Clerk Miguel Del Valle outlined his vision for Chicago Public Schools Tuesday, and took a shot at the frontrunner in the race.

As WBBM Newsradio 780 Political Reporter Craig Dellimore reports from Little Village neighborhood, Del Valle slammed Rahm Emanuel for backing legislation in Springfield that would, among other things, bar teachers from striking.

"There hasn't been a strike in Chicago since 1987. 1987! That was the first year that I served in office, and I've been in office for 24 years," Del Valle said, "and so that is not an issue."

Del Valle says instead of making teachers the scapegoats, people should be talking about things such as increasing state funding for schools and improving neighborhood schools, and restructuring the school day.

Del Valle made the remarks after touring Telpochcalli Elementary School, at 2832 W. 24th Blvd.
