DeKalb Prosecutor Asks State Police To Investigate NIU Cops In Rape Case

The accused in that rape case is a former NIU police officer, Andrew Rifkin. He was charged with sexually assaulting a student last year and then fired by the NIU Police Department.

A judge says the police department did not turn over to DeKalb County State's Attorney Clay Campbell statements from witnesses who said the sex was consensual.

"I asked the Illinois State Police to investigate this because it's clearly an egregious violation of basic constitutional principles," Campbell tells WBBM Newsradio.

The accused officer pleaded not guilty. He's out on bail.

The NIU Police Department could not be reached for comment.
