Stevenson Expressway Shooting: Man killed, pregnant wife uninjured
CHICAGO (CBS)-- A man was shot and killed while driving on the Stevenson Expressway on Thursday night. His pregnant wife also was in the car, but was not hurt.
Just after 9:30 p.m., 28-year-old Humberto Marin-Garcia was driving near Ashland Avenue when shots were fired from another vehicle. The shooter then drove off.
Marin-Garcia was killed, according to Illinois State Police and the Cook County Medical Examiner's office. His pregnant wife, Mayra Solis, was a passenger in the car. She wasn't in injured, but was taken to St. Anthony Hospital as a precaution.
Solis' cousin has set up a GoFundMe page, with the goal of raising $15,000 for Marin-Garcia's funeral.
"Humberto was a hard-working family man who put everyone else's needs and wants before his. He dedicated his life to his wife and 2 daughters. Humberto was also head over heels awaiting the arrival of his second child," the GoFundMe page states. "Our family especially my cousin and her little girls are devasted by Humberto's passing. Our family is doing whatever we can to gather funds to help cover the cost of the unexpected funeral expenses and help with any other unexpected costs her family will encounter."
All northbound lanes of the Stevenson Expressway were closed near Damen after the shooting as Illinois State Police investigated. The lanes reopened by about 3:15 a.m.
