Deadly Motorcycle Crash Shuts Down Dan Ryan
CHICAGO (CBS) -- A deadly crash on the inbound Dan Ryan this morning shut down the local lanes near Pershing.
A motorcyclist was killed when he collided with a car. The crash occurred in the local lanes of the expressway just north of 39th Street around 5:15 a.m.
Authorities closed all of the inbound local lanes to conduct their investigation.
The motorcycle was traveling at a high rate of speed when it struck the rear of a silver 2002 four-door Cadillac, police said.
Sylvester D. Dickson, 43, was riding a 1996 Yamaha motorcycle north when he rear-ended a 2002 Cadillac DeVille that slowed to change lanes, police said.
Dickson, of Chicago, was dead on the scene, State Police said.
The driver of the Cadillac, a 16-year-old boy, and four other passengers inside the car were not injured, State Police said. The driver was issued an unidentified citation.
CBS 2 traffic reporter Derrick Young said backups on the Dan Ryan were getting worse as the rush hour approached. Young suggested drivers use Lake Shore Drive or Stony Island as an alternate route.
The Dan Ryan lanes reopened around 9:30 a.m.
