Deadline Extended For Disaster Relief

CHICAGO (STMW) - The deadline for Illinois residents to apply for federal disaster assistance from summer flooding has been extended to Nov. 17 due to the large number of applicants.

According to the Federal Emergency Management Agency and the Illinois Emergency of Management Agency, registrations for assistance in Cook County alone have exceeded 120,000, a release from the Chicago Office of Emergency Management and Communications said.

With other affected counties combined, FEMA has provided more than a quarter-billion dollars statewide, the release said.

The Disaster Recovery Centers located at 95th and King Drive, 4905 W. North Ave. and 5410 W. 34th St. will also remain open through the extension period to allow residents to complete applications on site, the release said.

For additional information and assistance, call (800) 621-3362 or 311. Registration is also available at disasterassistance.gov.
