The last time there were this many murders in January was in 2002, when there were 45 homicides.
The last fatality happened in the Kenwood neighborhood on Tuesday, where a 15-year-old honor student, was shot and killed while taking shelter from the rain in a park.
Earlier in the day 27-year-old Devin Common was shot dead while two other men were critically wounded in a Greater Grand Crossing neighborhood shooting, according to family members and authorities.
A total of eight others were wounded in shootings across the city on Tuesday.
That follows an especially deadly Saturday night in which seven people were killed. Not all of those homicides were the result of shootings.
