De Jesus Drops Out Of Mayor's Race
CHICAGO (CBS/AP) -- Another candidate has dropped out of the race for mayor of Chicago.
Rev. Wilfredo De Jesus said Friday that he is withdrawing from the race and throwing his support behind former Chicago Board of Education president Gery Chico.
De Jesus is scheduled to appear with Chico Friday afternoon to formally endorse him.
In a news release on Friday, De Jesus' campaign said he and Chico share a commitment to economic development and to fighting poverty and homelessness.
De Jesus is the senior pastor at the New Life Covenant Church in Chicago's Humboldt Park neighborhood and a commissioner on the city's Zoning Board of Appeals.
