Dodgers' Adrian Gonzalez: Wrigley Field 'Not A Loud Stadium To Begin With'
(CBS) If every matchup needs a villain, it seems Dodgers first baseman Adrian Gonzalez is fulfilling that role in the National League Championship Series against the Cubs.
It was Gonzalez who tied Game 1 with a two-run single in the eighth inning, which set up an epic scene in which Miguel Montero hit a go-ahead grand slam in the bottom half. It was Gonzalez who homered to account for the game's lone run in a tense Game 2. It was Gonzalez who was salty in Game 4 in believing he was safe at the plate in the second inning of a scoreless game, only to see video review uphold an out call on a play that was as close as it gets.
And after Chicago earned an 8-4 win in Game 5 at Los Angeles on Thursday night to move within one win of its first World Series berth since 1945, it was Gonzalez who didn't show much deference to Wrigley Field and the scene that he expects in Game 6 on Saturday night.
"The same (atmosphere) we had in Game 1 and 2," Gonzalez said when asked what he expected the environment to be like in Game 6, according to the Tribune. "They can't put any more people in the stands. They can only put so many people.
"They can't cheer any louder. It's not like it's a loud stadium to begin with. They're going to try their best, and we're going to tune them out like we always do."
First pitch is set for 7:08 p.m. Saturday. You can hear the hometown call on 670 The Score.
