DCFS Investigating Death Of SW Side Infant

CHICAGO (STMW) -- The state Department of Children and Family Services is investigating the death of a one-month-old baby Friday in the Ashburn neighborhood on the Southwest Side.

Estefanai Gasca, of the 8000 block of South Kolin Avenue, was pronounced dead at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn at 10:45 p.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.

The parents of the infant found the child unresponsive at 9:45 p.m. in the home, police News Affairs Officer Jose Estrada said.

DCFS is investigating allegations of neglect against both parents, department spokesman Dave Clarkin said.

It is not immediately known if the other three children in the home have been removed, Clarkin said.

DCFS has had no prior contact with the family, Clarkin said.

Area Central detectives are conducting a death investigation.
