DCFS Investigating Death Of 5-Month-Old Boy
CHICAGO (CBS) -- The state Department of Children and Family Services is investigating Monday's death of a five-month-old boy on the Near South Side.
John Harrison Jr. was found unresponsive at his home in the 2900 block of South State Street, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office. He was pronounced dead at 7:46 p.m. at Mercy Hospital and Medical Center.
DCFS is investigating allegations of neglect against the parents of the infant, spokesman Jimmie Whitelow said.
Five other children in the home were placed in the care of DCFS.
In 2008, the mother and her then-boyfriend faced indications of abuse and neglect, Whitelow said.
DCFS provided the family with services, which may have included counseling and parenting classes, he said.
