Davis Plans Formal Annoucement: He's Running For Mayor
Big weekend ahead for adding names to the list of those who've formally announced for mayor.
CHICAGO (AP/CBS) - Congressman Danny Davis plans to formally announce his bid for Chicago mayor this weekend.
The Democrat has been endorsed by a coalition of black leaders. He's planning his announcement for Sunday morning at the Allegro Hotel in downtown Chicago.
In September, Mayor Richard Daley said he wouldn't seek a seventh term.
Davis will likely have to answer questions about a poll conducted by his own organization. It shows Emanuel beating Davis, even among African-American and Hispanic voters. The poll also shows Emanuel trouncing Brown.
Davis joins others who have announced their candidacy or are considering running for Chicago mayor.
They are City Clerk Miguel del Valle, former Chicago school board president Gery Chico, former White House chief of staff Rahm Emanuel, former U.S. Sen. Carol Moseley Braun and state Sen. James Meeks, a South Side pastor.
Emanuel is set to formally announce his bid on Saturday and Meeks will do the same on Sunday night.
Democrat Alexi Giannoulias, who lost his bid for U.S. Senate to Republican Mark Kirk on Nov. 2, planned to meet later Friday with about half a dozen aldermen to hear what they have to say about a possible Giannoulias mayoral run.
