Dart Sends Cadets To Work In Jail For Blizzard
CHICAGO (WBBM) -- The Cook County Sheriff's Department is among those that have had to make contingency plans because of the snowstorm.
As WBBM Newsradio 780's Bernie Tafoya reports, Dart says it's possible that a number of correctional officers at the Cook County Jail will not be able to make it in to work on Wednesday. So he has a plan.

"I don't have the liberty of calling the inmates and saying, 'Listen, we're all taking a snow day. You guys go home and come back in two days,'" Dart said. "So we have our cadets who are going through training right now at the academy. We're bringing all of them in."
Dart says about 100 cadets will be used Wednesday. He says he has more flexibility to put cadets where he wants to, and so he will.
Dart also says he has a number of sheriff's deputies on standby, should they be needed to help with police patrols in smaller suburbs and the many unincorporated areas of the county.
