Dart: Limits To Realistic Budget Cuts
CHICAGO (WBBM) -- Cook County Sheriff Tom Dart says he is willing to help the new County Board President Toni Preckwinkle bridge the county's budget gap, but he says there are limits.
As WBBM Newsradio 780's John Cody reports, Preckwinkle has asked for 21 percent budget cuts from every sector of the county.

Dart says he is willing to do what he can, but he says he is not optimistic about meeting that particular number.
"Once you start getting into double-digit numbers, that can seem to be really tricky," Dart said. "I just don't have the option to send the inmates home on the weekends. It just doesn't work that way. I have a feeling they won't come back."
Dart says he is under court order to hire 600 more correctional officers, but will find a way to make some cuts, although maybe not the 21 percent overall budget reduction sought by Preckwinkle.
