Daleys Honored For Their Support Of Theater

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Things are coming up roses these days for Mayor Daley.

The Chicago theater district on Monday afternoon bestowed a gift on the outgoing mayor and his wife, Maggie:  Two permanent, front-row seats at the Goodman Theater, with their names engraved on them.

Mr. and Mrs. Daley were saluted as "relentless advocates" for the arts, in a celebration at the Goodman Theatre. As Mayor Daley prepares to take his final bow -– he is not seeking re-election -- there are many thing's he'll be remembered for.

"He certainly has played a big role in the cultural growth of the city of Chicago," Roosevelt University political scientist Paul Green says.

And many institutions that will want to pay tribute as Chicago begins its goodbye.

And the events he's attended for years, like the annual Christmas Tree lighting at Daley Plaza, will take on a certain poignancy this year – his last as mayor.
