Dalai Lama To Appear In Chicago This Summer
CHICAGO (CBS) -- The Dalai Lama is returning to Chicago this summer, to deliver a public talk and conversation.
The 75-year-old Tibetan spiritual leader will appear Sunday, July 17, for a talk at the UIC Pavilion, 525 S. Racine Ave., titled "Bridging the Faith Divide." On Monday, July 18, he will hold a discussion with other religious leaders at the Harris Theater, at 205 E. Randolph Dr. in Millennium Park.
Pre-sale tickets for the events are available beginning Friday, through Ticketmaster for the first event, and directly from the Harris Theater for the second.
This is the first time the Dalai Lama has visited Chicago since 2007, when he gave two addresses on Buddhist spirituality on Millennium Park.
The Dalai Lama, whose worldly name is Tenzin Gyatso, fled Tibet in 1959 after the Chinese quelled a popular uprising. He is still widely revered in Tibet, though he is now based in Dharmsala, India, where he heads a government in exile.
He was proclaimed the 14th Dalai Lama at age 5 and became Tibet's leader at 15.
