Cyclist Dies After Sideswiping Moving Vehicle In Portage Park
CHICAGO (STMW) -- A bicyclist who sideswiped a moving a vehicle in the Northwest Side Portage Park neighborhood on Monday has died.
Rafael Ramirez, 33, hit the vehicle while riding bike near Addison Street and Central Avenue on Monday, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.
The crash occurred about 2:15 p.m., according to police News Affairs Officer Jose Estrada.
Ramirez was riding northbound on Central attempting to turn left onto Addison when he sideswiped a 1999 Saturn travelling westbound through the intersection with the right of way, Estrada said.
He fell from his bike and sustained a head injury, Estrada said. He was initially taken to nearby Our Lady of the Resurrection Medical Center, but was later transferred to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center.
Ramirez, of the 7200 block of West Diversey Avenue in Elmwood Park, died at the hospital about 2 a.m. Wednesday, the medical examiner's office said.
