Cuts To Snow Removal, Leaf Collection Discussed In Elgin
ELGIN, Ill. (CBS) -- Elgin residents may have to shovel more snow and rake more leaves as the city looks for ways to trim its budget.
As WBBM Newsradio's Nancy Harty reports, at a meeting of the Elgin city budget and financial planning task force Tuesday night, the Daily Herald reported city manager Sean Stegall called for feedback on the possibility of cutbacks in leaf collection and snow removal.

He said snow removal was held at a "gold standard" in Elgin, but questioned whether built-in overtime for workers could be scaled back, the Daily Herald reported.
Stegall also called leaf collection expensive, unequal and inefficient, the newspaper reported. As it is, some residents have their raked leaves picked up by the side of road in the fall, but others have to bag their own leaves and throw them away with everything else, the Daily Herald reported.
The newspaper reported that task force members were asked to look beyond their personal experience by looking at cuts. The discussion also included higher property taxes, and cuts to local business groups, as well as the Centre of Elgin fitness and reaction facility and the Hemmens Cultural Center.
