Cutler, Forte Placed On IR

(CBS) Neither player was expected to play against the Vikings Sunday, but the Bears made it a formality by placing quarterback Jay Cutler and running back Matt Forte on season-ending injured reserve Tuesday.

Cutler has missed the last five games since breaking his thumb against the Chargers Nov. 20. He had the pins removed from his injured throwing hand Tuesday.

Forte has missed the last three games since suffering a torn MCL against the Chiefs Dec. 4. He was expected to be out 2-4 weeks, but with an uncertain contract situation looming, it's no surprise he never returned to action.

With the Bears officially eliminated from playoff contention there was no reason to risk playing either against the Vikings in the season finale Sunday.
