Cutler Believes In Martz '100 Percent'
(CBS) After the Bears' 27-17 loss to the Packers on Sunday that featured a completely unbalanced pass-run attack, quarterback Jay Cutler was visiably unhappy with how the Bears' offense was being conducted.
Matt Forte had just nine carries, while Cutler hurled the ball 37 times, prompting Cutler to say: "I feel bad for (Forte) right now because he wants the ball, he wants to help out and we're not giving him a lot of opportunities."
Cutler, however, said Wednesday that he was committed to the way offensive coordinator Mike Martz plans to run the Bears' offense.
"This is Mike's system," Cutler said. "This is what Mike does. We're in it 100 percent. I've bought into it since the first day of install. I'm going to keep believing in it and keep running the plays to the best of my ability."
Martz's system seemed to be working well after the Bears defeated the Falcons in their season opener. Cutler threw for 312 yards and Forte and Kahlil Bell rushed for a combined 92 yards in a completely balanced attack.
Cutler said a lack of execution has plagued the Bears since their Week 1 showing.
"Week 1, we we're good, we we're clicking," he said. "We had a good balance. More than that, we executed the plays. We didn't have as many mistakes. We didn't have as many mental (mistakes) out there. That's the biggest thing. It doesn't really matter what defense we're going against or who it is. It's about us, and us going out there and executing."
Asked if he had confidence in his offensive line to protect him while paving a way for Forte, Cutler's response wasn't exactly a vote of confidence.
"I don't have a choice," Cutler said. "Those are the guys we've got to go with. We've got to get them ready. I've got to believe in them."
