Cubs Win 1-0, Send Two to Hospital
The Cubs eeked out a 1-0 win over the Dodgers Thursday afternoon. Tyler Colvin had the game-winnig RBI on a double after Mike Fontenot had tripled to lead off the eighth. Ted Lilly threw seven innings of shutout baseball and gave up just three hits and three walks to go along with five strikeouts.
The medical issues for the Cubs started in the top of the eighth when Russell Martin singled to left to begin the frame. It's a ball Jeff Baker, who was playing third at the time, would normally have made a move toward but instead his stood completely still. He didn't see it. Baker left the game two pitches later with loss of vision in his right eye. He went to the team optimologist after being removed from the ballgame.
Then, after the game, Lou Piniella let the media know that Carlos Zambrano had went to the hospital earlier in the day after he complained about lower-right abdominal pain just before the first pitch. After the game tests turned out to be negaitve for appendicitis and Zambrano's status is best described as day-to-day.
