Cubs Trade Hairston To National For Minor League Pitcher
(CBS) The Cubs have traded outfielder Scott Hairston to the Nationals in exchange for minor league right-handed pitcher Ivan Pineyro.
The 21-year-old Pineyro has combined to go 6-3 with a 3.24 ERA in 15 starts between Single-A Hagerstown and Potomac. He began the season with Hagerstown and went 5-3 with a 3.14 ERA in 13 starts, earning a promotion to High-A ball, where he went 1-0 with a 3.86 ERA in two starts with Potomac.
On the season, Pineyro combined to strike out 72 batters with only 22 walks in 77 2/3 innings.
Hairston, 33, batted .172 with two doubles, eight home runs and 19 RBI in 52 games with the Cubs this season.
