Cubs Trade Colvin, LeMahieu For Rockies' Weathers, Stewart
CHICAGO (CBS) -- The Chicago Cubs have traded outfielder Tyler Colvin and infielder DJ LeMahieu to the Colorado Rockies for infielder Ian Stewart and pitcher Casey Weathers.
Colvin, 26, became expendable when the Cubs signed outfielder David DeJesus last month. LeMahieu was unlikely to make the 2012 roster.
Stewart, 26, is a career .236 hitter in five seasons, with 61 doubles, 54 home runs and 187 RBI in 432 major league games with the Rockies. The left-handed hitter has played most of his games at third base, but has also played at second and a handful of games in left field and right field.
Weathers, 26, was the Rockies' first round pick in 2007 out of Vanderbilt and has a career 4.20 ERA in four seasons in the minors. He missed the 2009 season after undergoing Tommy John surgery in October 2008.
Although he was on Colorado's 40-man roster in 2011, he did not pitch in the majors.
