Cubs Sign Doug Davis To Minor League Contract
The Chicago Cubs have signed veteran left-hander Doug Davis to a Minor League on Tuesday, according to the team's official website.
The former Milwaukee Brewer is working his way back from flexor tendon surgery and will report to extended spring training in Mesa, AZ.
Davis' contract includes a $900,000 prorated base salary if he is in the Majors, and up to $2 million in performance and award incentives.
"He looks like he did when he first came to Milwaukee in 2003," Davis' agent Steve Canter told Cubs.com. "This is a good opportunity for him and the Cubs. He's pitched well in the NL Central."
Davis was signed to potentially provide some depth to a Cubs' rotation currently dealing with two pitchers (Andrew Cashner and Randy Wells) on the disabled list.
Davis has a 91-101 record with a 4.38 ERA and a 1.50 WHIP over 12 seasons with the Texas Rangers, Toronto Blue Jays, Brewers and Arizona Diamondbacks.
