Cubs Send Berg To Triple-A, Recall Rodrigo Lopez
CHICAGO (CBS) The Chicago Cubs sent right-handed pitcher Justin Berg to Triple-A Iowa and recalled right-handed pitcher Rodrigo Lopez, the team announced on Friday.
The 35-year old Lopez was acquired by the Cubs on Thursday in a trade with the Atlanta Braves for left-handed pitcher Ryan Buchter. In nine starts for the Braves' Triple-A affiliate this season, Lopez went 6-1 with a 2.59 ERA (17 ER/59.0 IP), issuing only 14 walks with 44 strikeouts in 59.0 innings pitched.
Berg has a 3.75 ERA in 12 innings of relief work this season.
To make room for Lopez on the 40-man roster, right-handed pitcher Robert Coello was designated for assignment.
