Cubs Put Mackanin 'Through The Grinder'
(CBS) After his interview with Theo Epstein and Co., Phillies bench coach Pete Mackanin took a breath of fresh air.
"It was very comprehensive," Mackanin said, according to a report in the Chicago Tribune posted Friday afternoon. "They didn't let me up for air. They keep pounding questions at you, and it's very interesting. It's fun. It's great getting to know these guys, seeing what's on their mind, and it's just a nice process to go through."

Mackanin said the interview process actually started Thursday night at a dinner.
"They put me through the grinder (Thursday) night," he said. "I couldn't enjoy my dinner."
Epstein, general manager Jed Hoyer, scouting director Jason McLeod and assistant general manager Randy Bush all took park in interviewing Mackanin to be the next Cubs manager. The Cubs' brass put the current bench coach in a variety baseball-related situations to see how he would react, followed by a session with the Chicago media.
Even after the interview, Mackanin is still interested in managing on the North Side.
"It'd be a thrill to take this Cubs team to the top and be part of it," Mackanin said.
