Cubs Prospects Come Through in AAA All-Star Game
Marlon Byrd isn't the only Cub to have performed well at a recent All-Star game. Darwin Barney (pictured above) and Thomas Diamond of the Cubs' AAA team both played key roles for the Pacific Coast League as they took on the International League in Tuesday's AAA All-Star game.
Although the PCL suffred a 2-1 loss, it was the Cubs' players who provided the offense and helped the PCL create an early lead. Shortstop Darwin Barney drove in the only run for his squad when his second inning singled scored Matt Miller of the Colorado Spring Sky Sox. At the time that looked like it could be a big run with Thomas Diamond, the starting pitcher, throwing two hitless innings and striking out two. Unfortunatly, in the bottom of the sixth the IL was able to plate two runs which would prove to be all they needed. For his efforts Diamond was named the PCL's Top Star, and all Cubs' fans hope he will continue to pitch just as well for the big league club in the near future.
