Cubs Promote Soler, Almora
(CBS) The Cubs promoted two of their top prospects to a higher minor league level, they announced late Tuesday night.
Outfielder Jorge Soler was promoted to Triple-A Iowa, while fellow outfielder Albert Almora has made the jump to Double-A Tennessee. The two are considered to be among the Cubs' top five prospects in the minor leagues.
After being slowed by injury, the 22-year-old Soler had torn up Double-A pitching, hitting .415 with six homers, 22 RBIs and a 1.355 OPS in 22 games in Tennessee. He's a likely candidate for a September call-up to the big leagues, and he's already a member of Chicago's 40-man roster.
The 20-year-old Almora had a slow start at Class-A Daytona before heating up, as he was hitting .283 with seven homers, a .712 OPS and 50 RBIs in 89 games.
