Cubs Place Soto On Disabled List, Recall Castillo
CHICAGO (CBS) The Chicago Cubs have placed catcher Geovany Soto on the disabled list with a left groin strain, the team announced on Wednesday.
Soto suffered the injury in the first inning of the Cubs' 6-4 loss to the St. Louis Cardinals. Soto had a .226 batting average, with eight doubles, three home runs and 12 runs batted in, in 31 games this season.
The Cubs called up 24-year-old Welington Castillo from Triple-A Iowa to take Soto's roster spot. Castillo spent most of the 2011 spring training with the major league club. He batted .632 (12-for-19) with an .842 slugging percentage in 17 Cactus League games.
