Cubs' Pitching 'Road Map' Hasn't Been Followed
CHICAGO(WSCR) Injuries and poor performances int he starting rotation has added to the work load of the Chicago Cubs' bullpen. It's a problem that the organization didn't foresee coming into the season.
"I think the road map that was laid out at the beginning of the season was to get that quality start, that solid six, maybe seven innings from the veterans in your rotation, and that just really hasn't been the case," former Cub and current analyst Todd Hollandsworth said on the Danny Mac Show. "...The bullpen has been tested, they've been doing a pretty good job. They've been logging a bunch of innings."

On Thursday night, the Cubs were able to outlast the Philadelphia Phillies and win in the 11th. And the Cubs bullpen played a big role in that win.
"You talk about the bullpen," Hollandsworth said. "That's really what it came down to, you know, being able to manage your bullpen so that, you know, if you got this thing into extra innings, you had strong arms. And then you look at the Phillies' side, you know, that plowed through those guys with the matchups in the middle, late parts of that ball game, they ran out of pitching at the end."
