Cubs Name Mark Riggins As New Pitching Coach
According to Carrie Muskat, of MLB.com, the Cubs are expected to name Mark Riggins as the team's new pitching coach.
Riggins was the team's Minor League pitching coordinator last season, his second in that position. Before joining the Cubs' organization, Riggins spent 29 years with the St. Louis Cardinals, including 12 as the team's Minor League pitching coordinator.
The 53-year old Riggins will replace Larry Rothschild who signed a three-year contract with the New York Yankees after spending nine seasons on the Cubs' staff as the pitching coach.
The Riggins hire now completes manager Mike Quade's staff. Quade added Pat Listach as bench coach, and the Cubs promoted Dave Keller, Minor League hitting coordinator, as a special assistant.
