Cubs Make Roster Moves As Mateo Goes On D.L.
(CBS) A day after leaving the Cubs' 5-4 loss to the Nationals in Washington, Marcos Mateo was placed on the 15-day disabled list with right-elbow soreness Tuesday.
The Cubs recalled Chris Carpenter to replace Mateo in the bullpen. They also optioned Casey Coleman to Triple-A Iowa and selected the contract of Ramon Ortiz, who will start Tuesday's game in Washington.
Mateo left Monday's game in the 10th inning with the elbow injury. Carlos Marmol replaced him in the game and allowed the game-winning run to score on a wild pitch.
Ortiz has a career record of 85-82 and hasn't won a game in the majors since April 17, 2007 when he was with the Minnesota Twins.
