Cubs, Hill Agree To 2011 Contract
(WSCR) - Much of the outlook for the Chicago Cubs changed when the team traded for Rays pitcher Matt Garza. Today, the Cubs made another move to sure up the 2011 roster.
Although today's move is as more about finances and depth than anything else.
The Cubs and catcher Koyie Hill have agreed to terms on a 2011 contract, thus avoiding arbitration. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Hill, who turns 32 in March, appeared in 77 games for the Cubs last season, including 60 starts behind the plate, and batted .214 (46-for-215) with 13 doubles, one triple, one home run and 17 RBI. The switch-hitter first signed with the Cubs prior to the 2007 campaign and enters his fifth season in the organization.
Since 2007, the Cubs have recorded an 84-72 record in games started by Hill, good for a .538 winning percentage.
In all or part of seven major league seasons with the Los Angeles Dodgers (2003), Arizona (2004-05) and the Cubs (2007-10), Hill is a career .215 hitter (150-for-699) with 37 doubles, six home runs and 66 RBI in 256 games.
