Cubs Get Blown Out By Padres
The Chicago Cubs went seven innings before getting a run on the board. San Diego had no trouble getting 14 runs off of Garza.
Chase Headley hit a grand slam and Eric Patterson had two hits, scored twice and drove in a run against his former team as the San Diego Padres beat Matt Garza and the Chicago Cubs 14-4 Saturday.
The Padres scored twice in the bottom of the third inning with two doubles, three walks and a sacrifice fly, all off Garza, who struggled through three innings in his fourth spring training start. Garza has a 9.88 ERA this spring.
Orlando Hudson doubled twice, scored a run and drove in a run, and Cameron Maybin and Rico Noel each homered in support of Padres starter Aaron Harang, who shut out the Cubs on two hits and three walks over 5 1-3 innings.
The Padres scored eight runs in two innings off Cubs reliever Braden Looper.
